In the search box on the taskbar, enter device manager, then select Device Manager. Select a category to see names of devices, then right-click (or press and hold) the one you’d like to update. 2. Open the Properties.

   Choose your scanner and click the Properties button.
   If the User Account Control screen appears, do the following:
   1. For users who have administrator rights: Click Continue or Yes.
      
   2. For users who do not have administrator rights: Enter the administrator password, and click OK or Yes.
      

   (Windows XP)

   Right-click the Scanner Device icon for your machine and choose Properties.
